Mirage 180

3D""

Mirage 180. 7.1" f/10 Rumak Maksutov-Cassegrain optical system with moving primary focus. Optical quality is to minimum of 1/6th wavefront error. The Mirage 180 is an improved version of the older STF 7".  Built in to the Mirage 180 is a ring of rear cell holes to aid rapid cooling, with a detachable cover ring. Mirrors have 96% reflectivity. Stable oxide multi-coated Meniscus lens. Attached aluminium dewshield. 2" threaded rear cell opening to accept SCT accessories. Attractive cream textured painted tube. Included with tube assembly - Intes 10X50 finderscope and bracket, piggy-back holder base, Interferometric report, soft padded case. Price - £1299

The Mirage Maksutov Cassegrains are rapidly gaining the reputation as the finest imaging f/10 Maksutovs from a Russian manufacturer.

Coming early 2004 - Mirage 180 (7" f/10) with 1/10th wavefront error optics with new sputter coated secondary mirrors. Limited number only for the first year.
Price £1995 (Exceptionally low price for a 7" Maksutov of this quality).

Coming mid 2004 - Mirage 200 (8" f/10) with 1/6th wavefront error optics. Again, limited numbers available for the first year.
Price £2195 (The lowest price high quality 8" Maksutov available).

Helios (Synta)

Helios telescopes are no longer available in the UK. The Skywatcher range of telescopes have replaced them. These are essentially the same telescopes (made by Synta in China) but under the Skywatcher label there is a greater variety of telescopes and mounts.

Intercon Spacetec

Ylena 150mm

Ylena 150mm f/14 Gregory Maksutov-Cassegrain. Manufacturer claim 1/10th wavefront error. Astro-Sital primary. BK7 meniscus. Mirror focus. Black textured finish. Excellent high magnification portable instrument. Unusually high performance for a Mak at this price. Complete with 40mm finderscope body (requires 1 1/4" star diagonal and eyepiece to complete finderscope), camera adapter and soft case. Please indicate mount choice as optional dovetail bracket must be ordered with telescope.

Price - £1049

‘I have owned two of these. I sold one, wish I hadn’t and promptly bought another. For a regular Gregory Maksutov, the Ylena 150 f/14 (compared to all other 6” Maksutovs at higher prices), delivers an embarrassingly good astronomical performance. Stars are pinpoint, even at high power. The Moon and planets are crisp at 2X per mm of aperture (seeing permitting), and deep-sky condensed stellar and planetary nebulae stand out very well. The primary substrate is Sital with the claim of 1/10th wavefront error, which means 1/20th on the surface. Cool down is no faster than a Mak with a Pyrex mirror, but the Sital stays in shape whilst cooling, so very little undercorrection is noted when the optics are still warmer than the outside air.

‘2” and 1-1/4” accessories can be used. The use of a star diagonal is advised as this Gregory design will allow sky flooding to be visible if an eyepiece is used straight into the back. The finderscope is unique and a high quality 40mm achromatic spotting scope in its own right. A 25mm Plossl or Orthoscopic serves well as a finder eyepiece giving about 10X magnification. Even with a 4mm Radian the image with this little finder is still sharp. The finder requires its own 1-1/4” diagonal.

‘For a high power compact visual catadioptric at an affordable price, very little, if anything currently challenges this Maksutov. Well recommended.’

- Chris Garvey, 2003.
